Unless you are planning to wear your mother's wedding dress for your wedding day, then your dress choice should be perfectly tailored to you. Don't be pressured by family, friends or sales consultants to pick anything less than your version of the perfect bridal gown. Take time and do it your way.
How do you begin to shop for a wedding dress?
Have you known since you were a little girl what your wedding gown would look like? That's okay as we're allowed to change our minds right up to the moment when you say, "I'll take it." Get started by looking at gowns online and in magazines so that you'll have a good starting point when you walk into your first bridal shop.
What to consider when selecting your wedding dress?
By now you know what looks good on your body. However, take the time to talk about materials with your consultant at The Perfect Bride where we can walk you through what types of dresses may look best on your frame. The Perfect Bride can help you wade through a-line, flare, organza, sheath or tulle and what it means to you.
Is your wedding ceremony formal, at the beach, or somewhere in between? You'll want to take the venue into consideration when picking the style of your gown, but it's the bride's body that determines the type of material and shape for the wedding dress. For example, if you're looking for a more structured dress then material such as taffeta, a guipure lace, or silk shantung will smooth out the curves. Material such as chiffon or an unstructured silk will be flowier and provide less shaping.
Does the gown speak to you?
What kind of bride will you be on your big day? You'll look stunning no matter what, but just remember it is your day and your dress choice.
Before you pull the trigger on buying the dress, make sure it is the one you love. Much like the groom, you should love the gown. So, take your time considering a dress. Sleep on it. Don't let anyone push you into getting something you don't want.
